Community House, Inc., is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization located in Brattleboro, Vermont.
We offer a structured short-term residential stabilization and assessment program to assist children ages 5-12 who are generally under the care of the Vermont Department for Children and Families, or the Vermont Department of Mental Health. These children may be in a placement crisis and typically, they present with behavioral difficulties and require short-term residential treatment services. The general length of stay is 90-120 days. Community House is licensed by the Vermont Department for Children and Families.
In addition to the residential program, Community House also offers a small non-residential therapeutic Day School Program and High School for children referred by local elementary and middle schools. The schools are licensed by the Vermont Agency of Education as an approved General and Special Education Independent School for grades K through 12.
The Community House Residential Program is designed to assess the needs of children who are not able to be safely treated in a community-based setting. We work to stabilize their behaviors as well, and coordinate with the child's treatment team to plan for the next step upon their discharge from the program.
The Community Schoolhouse and Community House High School are an alternative school serving children, grades K-8, who are also experiencing emotional/behavioral challenges. It has been determined by their sending schools that their educational needs cannot be adequately served in a public school setting.
